Meet the 2023-2024 grantees

The grants will support member universities to organise and deliver training for their early and mid career researchers, including doctoral candidates.

Kibabii University, Kenya

The grant will fund training for early career researchers on research integrity principles and ethical conduct, and a media training programme to enhance presentation and public engagement skills. The leads for the training project are Professor Muganda Munir Manini, Associate Professor of Finance and specialist in development finance, and Dr Patrick Owoche, a Lecturer and Coordinator of Linkages and International Affairs and specialist in IT and digital education.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana

The grant will fund training for early career researchers on digital tools for research. The aim is to equip researchers with the digital and research skills essential for success in academia and beyond. The lead for the training project is Professor Eric Appau Asante, Associate Professor of Educational Innovations and Director of e-Learning.

Riphah International University, Pakistan

The grant will fund training for doctoral and post-doctoral early career researchers on grant writing. The lead for the training project is Dr Khurram Shahzad, Dean/Professor in the Faculty of Management Sciences. Dr Shahzad’s research interests are organisational/project behaviour and leadership.

South Eastern Kenya University

The grant will fund training sessions on how to build emotional intelligence for a smooth research process. The lead for the training project is Dr Kevin Wachira, a Lecturer in innovation and entrepreneurship. Dr Wachira is passionate about emotional intelligence in the workplace.

Technical University of Kenya

The grant will fund training for early career researchers on the effective communication of research findings, presentation and grant writing skills, and research data management. The leads for the training project are Dr Peter Ndangili, Senior Lecturer of Chemistry, Dr George Obiero, professional educationist and researcher specialising in molecular biology and bioinformatics, and Dr Peninah Wairagu, a biochemist/molecular biologist.

University of Ilorin, Nigeria

The grant will fund training for early career researchers in networking and time management. The lead for the training project is Dr Mulikat Mustapha, a reader in the Department of Counsellor Education and Deputy Director of Training. Dr Mustapha is passionate about guiding staff and students in research careers.
