A second ACU Commonwealth Futures Climate Research Cohort has been launched to support and connect rising climate career research stars.
The Cohort supports the growth of early career researchers, from a variety of disciplines and climate change-related fields, through an applied training and development programme. This is another example of ACU's commitment to the international research community and to building a better world through higher education.
With funding from the British Council's Going Global Partnerships, the ACU has partnered with Durham University, Queen Mary University of London, SOAS University of London, the University of York, the University of Warwick, PlanAdapt and the University of Cape Town Researcher Development Academy (UCT-RDA) to co-develop and implement the programme. 20 early career researchers (Climate Cohort Fellows) will be supported in developing their skills and expertise in co-creating climate action focused research with policy and practice stakeholders. The initiative will also look to nurture international and transdisciplinary research partnerships with the intention of co-producing added impactful knowledge.
Reflecting the diversity of the Commonwealth, the Cohort programme brings together a group of early career researchers, based in ten countries (Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka), and at 18 institutions.
By convening a diverse range of project partners, to support a pipeline of researchers with the necessary capacities to contribute to climate action, the ACU is operationalising its vision of a world in which higher education transcends borders, strengthens societies, fosters innovation, and lifts the lives of people throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.
The programme also reflects the ACU's commitment to the Adaptation Research Alliance, a global coalition committed to a new paradigm of adaptation research for impact of which the ACU is a member.
